They floated like goddamn feathers in slow syrup — too calm. Too still.
And I swear the air shifted, just slightly. Like it was sniffing them out.
I wiped my visor three times. Nothing there.
Then their fingers started to vibrate, man. Real fast. Like Morse code from hell.
That’s when I knew: either it was tearing them apart…
or my brain had already hit the eject button and was just feeding me a goodbye reel.
